A Journey Across Generations: Jamia Alumnus Imran Loskar Returns to His Alma Mater with His Daughter

Some stories beautifully capture the lifelong bond between an alumnus and their alma mater. One such story belongs to Imran Loskar, a proud alumnus of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College (SSC 1996 Batch).

On 22 April 2020, Imran shared a heartfelt reflection that touched the hearts of countless Jamians:

“আমি আমার আব্বার হাত ধরে ১৯৮৬ সালে জামেয়ায় ভর্তি হয়ে ছিলাম, আর ৩০ বছর পর ২০১৬ সালে আমার মেয়ে আমার হাত ধরে জামেয়ায় ভর্তি হয়।”

These simple yet powerful words tell a remarkable story of three generations connected through one institution.

In 1986, a young Imran Loskar first entered the gates of Jamia, holding the hand of his father as he began his educational journey. Over the following years, Jamia became the foundation of his academic life, character and values before he successfully completed his SSC in 1996.

Years later, Imran went on to establish himself as one of Bangladesh’s respected actuarial professionals. Throughout his distinguished career, he has worked in senior actuarial and insurance leadership roles and has contributed significantly to the development of the actuarial profession in Bangladesh. His professional work has included supporting initiatives in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to strengthen actuarial capacity and promote sustainable insurance development. He has also served in senior actuarial positions within leading life insurance companies and is widely recognised for his expertise in actuarial science, financial risk management and insurance consulting.

Despite his professional achievements, one of the most meaningful moments in his life came in 2016, exactly 30 years after his own admission to Jamia.

This time, he returned not as a student, but as a proud father, holding the hand of his daughter as she began her own educational journey at the very same institution.

His story is far from unique.

Over the past four decades, many Jamians who completed their primary education, secondary education or SSC at Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College have later returned to enrol their own sons and daughters at Jamia. This enduring tradition reflects the deep trust alumni continue to place in the institution that helped shape their lives.

An educational institution’s greatest success is not measured solely by examination results or the achievements of its graduates. Rather, it is reflected in the confidence of former students who choose the same school for the education of the next generation. Every child who follows in the footsteps of a Jamian parent strengthens the legacy of Jamia and reinforces the lifelong relationship between the institution and its alumni.

As Jamia looks ahead to its Golden Jubilee in 2028, stories like Imran Loskar’s remind us that Jamia is much more than a school. It is a place where generations are connected through shared memories, enduring values and a lasting sense of belonging.

The Jamia Alumni Network celebrates Imran Loskar’s inspiring journey and extends its appreciation to every Jamian family that has entrusted the education of the next generation to their beloved alma mater. Together, these families continue to preserve and strengthen the proud legacy of Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School & College for generations to come.
