The election was held on 17 July 2026 at the National Press Club, Dhaka, in a vibrant and highly competitive atmosphere. Salam Faruqe secured 80 votes from a total of 132 votes cast, receiving the highest number of votes among the Vice-President candidates. His election reflects the confidence, trust and respect he has earned from fellow journalists through nearly three decades of dedicated service to the profession.
Nearly Three Decades in Journalism
Salam Faruqe’s journalism journey began in 1997, when he started writing for local newspapers in Sylhet. His passion for reporting soon led him to the national media, where he worked with Banglabazar Patrika in 1998 before contributing to various feature sections of Bhorer Kagoj from 1999.
After moving to Dhaka, he worked with several media organisations before beginning mainstream reporting with Daily Amader Shomoy in February 2005. Alongside reporting on a wide range of national issues, he also served as Executive Editor of the weekly publication Media Watch, where he became known for standing beside journalists facing professional challenges and advocating for the welfare of media professionals.
Over the years, he continued his distinguished career with Share Biz Karca, Amader Orthoniti, BanglaNews24.com and Barta24, where he eventually served as Chief Reporter.
He later joined Gazi Television (GTV) as Assistant News Editor, making significant contributions to broadcast journalism.
On 5 April 2025, Salam Faruqe joined RTV as News Editor, marking another important milestone in his professional career. In this senior editorial role, he continues to oversee news operations, mentor journalists and contribute to one of Bangladesh’s leading private television channels.
Leadership Within the Journalism Community

He was the Founding Organisational Secretary of the Comilla Journalists Forum, Dhaka, playing a pivotal role in establishing and developing the organisation during its formative years. His election as Vice-President represents another significant milestone in his longstanding commitment to uniting journalists from the Comilla region working in the capital.
His leadership extends beyond a single organisation. In August 2025, he was appointed Joint Executive Member of the Broadcast Journalist Center (BJC) for the 2025-2027 term.
The Broadcast Journalist Center is one of Bangladesh’s leading professional organisations for television journalists. Since its establishment, the organisation has worked to improve journalists’ professional skills, provide legal support for media professionals facing threats, enhance members’ welfare and promote the long-term development of broadcast journalism across Bangladesh.
Earlier in his career, Salam Faruqe was also actively involved with the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), one of the country’s largest and most respected professional organisations for working journalists. Founded in 1995, DRU now represents more than 1,600 journalists from newspapers, television channels, online media and news agencies.

Being elected Vice-President through a democratic vote of fellow journalists is a significant endorsement of Salam Faruqe’s professionalism, integrity and leadership.
Throughout his career, he has earned the respect of colleagues through balanced journalism, responsible editorial leadership and his unwavering commitment to supporting the profession.
